# Password & security

> How to change your password from inside Account Settings.

Open **Account Settings** from your avatar menu, then select the **Security and Login** tab.

    Your current password is shown masked.

  <Step title="Enter your current and new password">
    Type your **current password**, then your **new password** (at least 8 characters), and **confirm** it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Confirm change">
    Your password updates immediately — no need to sign in again.
  </Step>

<Note>
  Forgot your current password entirely? You can't change it from here — sign out and use [Resetting a forgotten password](/getting-started/resetting-a-forgotten-password) instead.
</Note>

Your new password must be different from your current one, and needs to be at least 8 characters — slightly stricter than the minimum when you first signed up.
